Baked Fish And Chips

Oven baked fish and chips recipe on the sheet pan for an appetizer or finger foods ideas. Easy, kids friendly meal, dairy-free, healthy.

Having one picky eater in the family and dealing with a food allergy is challenging somehow. My daughter loves finger food, but actually who doesn’t like finger food, right? Anyway, I make the fish and chips on meal rotation every week. Because this finger food is so simple to make, and she always eats it without me sitting, begging, and waiting in front of her to finish her meal.

Oven baked fish and chips recipes on the sheet pan for an appetizer or finger foods ideas. Easy, kids friendly meal, dairy-free, healthy.

The reason why this fish and chips is so easy to make because I baked it instead of frying. There is no need to deal with oil splatter all over the stove and backsplash. I also bake everything on my favorite baking sheet.

Oven baked fish and chips recipe on the sheet pan for an appetizer or finger foods ideas. Easy, kids friendly meal, dairy-free, healthy.
Course: Main Course
Cuisine: American
Servings: 4
Author: Ina Wrobel
Ingredients
  • 4 tilapia
  • 4 yellow potato
  • 3 tbsp grapeseed oil
  • 2 cups breadcrumb
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • salt
Instructions
  1. Cut the tilapia into smaller pieces. I cut it into four pieces per fish. Season the fish with salt. Leave it for about 15 minutes.

  2. While waiting for the fish ready, preheat the oven to 400° F, prepare the sheet pan and line it with parchment paper.

  3. Peel of the potato skin and cut it into wedges. Season it with salt and 1 tbsp oil.
  4. Arrange the potato wedge on the sheet pan, bake it in the oven for 15 minutes, turn it halfway done.
  5. Prepare two bowls, one for breadcrumb and garlic powder and the other one for the whisked egg.
  6. Put the fish on the breadcrumb then on the whisked egg, then back to the breadcrumb mixture, make sure the fish coated thoroughly. Repeat the process until all fish covered with the breadcrumb.
  7. Use the same pan, push the potato wedge to the side, arrange the fish on the pan, drizzle the fish with the rest of the oil, or you can use cooking spray. Return the sheet pan to the oven. Bake it for 25 minutes, turn the fish halfway done until the fish cooked through, and the potato has a crispy edge.
  8. Serve the fish and chips with ketchup or your favorite tartar sauce.
Recipe Notes
  • I use grapeseed oil because the food doesn't get burnt easily. I used sunflower oil and canola oil before, and the fish got burn edge before it cooks through.

If there is any left over, warm it up in the toaster oven or conventional oven on 400° F for 5 minutes.

Oh you used tilapia for this recipe! I should ask the fishmonger to fillet the tilapia for me. We always buy the whole fish and fry it.

Like you, I tend to bake everything to avoid the oily mess and of course it is better for you. I try to substitute real potatoes out with sweet potatoes once in awhile I just sprinkle some seasoning on them and we’re good to go. Thanks for the other recipes also I’ll be trying some.
