To make a square watermelon mug rug:
Mark 1″ from all corners left and right. Use the protractor to draw four curved lines between the 1″ marked spots on all corners. Trim the material in all corners along the four curved lines. Sew along the edge with 0.25″ seam allowance, and skip 2″ for the opening gap.
Turn the fabric right side out through the opening gap. Use the chopstick to push each corner. Fold the opening gap inward. Press the square watermelon mug rug with a clothes iron. Topstitch along the edge and close the opening at the same time.
To make the triangle watermelon coaster:
Mark 1″ from two bottom corners, left and right.
Use the protractor to draw two curved lines between the 1″ marked spots on both corners. Fold the material in half and mark the middle spot on the top edge.
Draw the line from the marked spot on the top edge to the curves on the left and right to create a triangle. Trim the material along the triangle line.
Sew along the edge with 0.25″ seam allowance, and skip 2″ for the opening gap. Clip the extra fabric on the pointy corner. Turn the fabric right side out through the opening gap.
Use the chopstick to push each corner. Fold the opening gap inward, then press the triangle watermelon coaster with a cloth iron. Topstitch along the edge and close the opening at the same time.
The triangle and square watermelon coasters are ready to use.
Size Of The Watermelon Mug Rug And Coaster
The final size of the square watermelon slice mug rug is around 6.5″ x 6.5″, and the triangle watermelon coaster is around 6.5″ on all three edges.
The triangle watermelon slice is a bit smaller than the square one, so it is great as a coaster as it is just big enough space for a cup, while the square one is larger and has enough space to hold a mug and a few cookies.
