This cute tiny Easter basket fits a large plastic egg with some treats or several chocolate eggs. It will also fit a painted Easter egg with decorative paper grass as a basket filler.
Supplies To Make Tiny Egg Basket
The bunny ear bow is optional but adds cuteness to the basket. The link for the bunny ear template is on the supply list below.
Use fusible interfacing for a tiny basket, as it is less bulky and easier to topstitch around the top of the basket.
For the basket
2 of 5″ x 5″ square outer fabrics
2 of 5″ x 5″ square inner fabrics
2 of 5″ x 5″ square fusible interfacing
For the basket handle
2 of 2″ x 7″ fabrics
1 of 2″ x 7″ fusible interfacing
For the bunny ear bow
2 of 3″ x 8″ fabrics

Small Fabric Easter Basket Tutorial

For the basket, fuse the fusible interfacing into the wrong side of both outer layer fabrics.
With the right side of both fabric layers facing each other, pin the outer fabric layers together. With the right side of both fabric layers facing each other, pin the inner fabric layers together.
Sew along the left, across the bottom edge, and the right side with a 0.25″ seam allowance.
Mark a 1.25″ square on both corners of each bag.
Clip both marked squares.
Open the bag, align the side and bottom seam, pin it, and sew it with a 0.25″ seam allowance.
For the basket handle, fuse the fusible interfacing into the wrong side of one fabric. Pin both fabrics together with the right side of both fabric layers facing each other.
Sew along both long edges with a 0.25″ seam allowance. Turn the fabric on the right side out and press it with a clothes iron. Topstitch along the edge.
For the bunny ear, pin both fabric layers with the right side facing each other. Trace the bunny ear template, and mark 1.5″ for the opening gap.
Sew along the traced marked line. Trim the fabric about 0.25″ from the stitched line.
Turn the fabric on the right side out and push the edge with a chopstick. Fold the opening seam inward and press the fabric bunny ear with a clothes iron. Topstitch along the seam and close the opening gap at the same time.
Pin the basket handle to the top edge of the outer layer bag. Sew both ends of the basket handle to secure it.
Insert the inner layer bag with the right side of both layers facing each other. Align the side seam of the inner and outer layers.
Sew along the top edge of the basket with 0.5″ seam allowance, and skip 1.5″ for the opening gap. Turn the fabric basket right side out.
Fold the opening inward and press the seam with a clothes iron. Topstitch along the edge of the basket and close the opening gap at the same time.
Pinch the center of the basket handle. Wrap around the fabric bunny ear, and make a knot to resemble a pair of bunny ears bow.
Fabric Basket Size
The size of this tiny Easter basket is 2.75″ in height from the base to the top edge, 2″ in width, and 2.5″ in depth. The total basket height from the base to the bow is around 6″.
