Candy Corn Coaster With Reverse Applique Patchwork.

The reverse applique quilt is a straightforward sewing project that can be applied to any other applique shapes, like this Flower Coaster, this adorable Heart Coaster, this Hexi Shape Coaster, and this Christmas theme Santa Belt Mug Rug.

Supply To Make Candy Corn Applique Coaster

Use the charm pack fabric bundle or fabric scraps. I use brown fabric for the base, but you can use any other color you have available.

White Mug On Candy Corn Coaster.

The candy corn template is easy to make from a piece of paper. Use a protractor or a small round object to mark the three corners of the template.

To make the candy corn patchwork, pin the white and the orange fabric together on the long edge with the right side of both fabrics facing each other, sew it with a 0.5″ seam allowance.

Sewing Candy Corn Patchwork.

Pin the yellow and the orange fabric together on the long edge with the right side of both fabrics facing each other, sew it with a 0.5″ seam allowance.

Yellow, orange, white fabric patchwork.

Flatten the stitched edge, and topstitch along the yellow and white fabric hem.

Make the candy corn template. Mark the paper with these measurements as shown in the picture below.

Making triangle template.

On the top side, measure 1.5″ from the left and right corners toward the center. On the bottom side, measure 0.5″ up from the left corner, and 0.5″ from the left corner to the right side, then measure 0.5″ up from the right corner and 0.5″ over to the left side. Then use a protractor on all three corners.

Tracing triangle template.

Pin two brown fabrics together with the right sides facing each other. Trace the candy corn template on the fabric. Sew along the traced line.

Trim the excess fabric inside the stitched line. It will resemble a triangle shape. Fringe cut or clip all three corners. Turn the fabric right side out through the triangle, and press it with a clothes iron.

Sewing brown fabric.

To make the reverse applique coaster, pin the material as follows: patchwork fabric with the right side down, fusible fleece, one piece of brown fabric with the right side up, and the brown fabric with the triangle shape.

Sewing brown fabric for coaster.

Sew along the square edge with 0.25″ seam allowance. Clip all four corners to reduce bulk.

Mug On Candy Corn Coaster.

Turn the fabric right side out through the triangle shape. Now the candy corn patchwork will show in the center inside the triangle. Press it with a clothes iron, then topstitch along the hem of the triangle shape.

Candy Corn Applique For Coaster.

The candy corn reverse applique coaster is ready to use now. The size of the coaster is 4.5″ x 4.5″.
