Supply To Make Tortilla Warmer Pouch
Use 100% cotton fabric, batting, and thread, because you will use it in the microwave. This Pellon Wrap N Zap is 100% cotton batting specifically for sewing microwavable items.
Use a half-yard or two sheets of fat quarter cotton fabric to make one tortilla warmer. Also, you might want to prewash the fabric to reduce shrinkage.
It is better to use plain white cotton fabric for the inside layer as it will touch the food directly. However, you can use cotton fabric with some prints and colours for the outer layer.
For the picture only, I used coloured fabric for the inside layer because it is much easier to show the fabric’s wrong and right sides in the picture. If I use plain white fabric, it isn’t easy to see which side of the fabric.
Disclaimer: Even though this item is 100% cotton and for microwave use, Crafty For Home and I are not responsible for any issue that may arise from microwaving tortillas on this pouch you made from this tutorial. Any appliance may have different capabilities.

Use this tortilla warmer template, or make an 11 inches diameter circle using the compass on paper and use it as a template. Alternatively, use a dinner plate or a lid from a cooking pan as a template by tracing the dinner plate directly on the fabric and batting.
If you like to use a larger tortilla bread, measure the tortilla’s diameter, then add 1 inch. Cut all materials as follow:
- 2 circle fabrics for the outside layer
- 2 circle fabrics for the inside layer
- 2 circle fabrics for the batting
Sandwich the material as follows: batting, the wrong side of the inside layer of the fabric facing down, the wrong side of the outside layer facing up.
Use quilting clips to keep it together. Sew along the edge with a 0.25″ seam allowance and skip 2.5 inches for the opening.
Turn the circle right side out. Fold the opening gap inward and press both circles with the ironing machine.
Fold both circles in half and mark the folding spots. Mark 0.25″ seam allowance along the closed hem side of a half circle.
Then topstitch along the closed hem on the marked line between the folding spot from A to B. Repeat the process for the other fabric and batting circles.
Pin the two circles together with the inside layer facing each other and align the topstitched line. Again, using quilting clips is much easier for this process.
Topstitch along the hem of the other half-circle and close the opening gaps at the same time from A to B so that the topstitch will meet at the other half-circle stitch.
Your tortilla warmer pouch is ready to use.
This tortilla warmer pouch instruction will eliminate the need for bias tape and no exposed raw edge of fabric that will have possible contact with the food.
