The fabric bread holder or tortilla bread warmer is handy when the fall or holiday season approaches. A warm bread bun with a hearty soup is a complete meal for this time of the year.
Supply To Make Bread Warmer
The fabric pieces you need are 18″ square each, so you can use two pieces of fat quarter fabric since it is mostly 18″ x 21″.
Turn the leftover fabric from this project into fabric straps, bookmarks, or a small pouch for a quarter-keeper keychain. You always need that coin for the shopping cart at certain grocery stores.
To make the microwave bread warmer, use 100% cotton thread, fabric, and batting.
The batting is optional. You can skip it or use it based on preference. To make an insulated bread warmer, add an insulation layer using Insult Bright or a similar product.
You can also use the reversible cloth napkin from this tutorial to make the fabric dinner rolls warmer.
- 2 pieces of 18″ square fabric
- 18″ square cotton batting, like Pellon Wrap n Zap
- 6″ diameter paper circle for the template
- Disappeared ink marker. I use the dual-purpose fabric marker
- Pins or quilting clips
- Ruler

- Sewing machine

Measure and mark the line 5.5″ on the circle template. Mark the center spot, which would be on the 2.75″ mark.
Cut the template along the 5.5″ line, and use only the larger piece from the circle as a template to make this fabric bread warmer pattern.
Fold the fabric in half. Use the marker or pinch the fabric to mark the center fold. Fold again on the other side in half, and mark the center so you will have the center-marked spot on all four sides of the fabric.
Put the template on the edge of the fabric. Align the center-marked spot on each side of the fabric. Trace the template on the fabric.
Layer the material as follows:
- Batting
- The right side of one fabric facing up
- The right side of the other fabric facing down
Cut the fabric along the traced template on all four sides. Sew straight along the edge with a 0.25″ seam allowance, and skip 3″ for the opening gap.
Clip all pointy corners to reduce bulk. Turn the fabric right side out, and push the edge with a chopstick.
Press it a clothes iron. Topstitch along the edge of the bread buns warmer and close the opening gap at the same time.
The fabric bread warmer is ready to use now.
How To Use Fabric Bread Warmer
If you use thread and all materials 100% cotton, you can microwave the fabric warmer for a few minutes or until it is warm enough. Or skip microwaving the fabric if your bread buns are fresh and warm.
Then, put the warmer on the bread basket or bowl, and put the warm fresh bread, buns, or dinner rolls on top of the fabric warmer. Fold the fabric warmer over the bread, overlapping all four fabric corners, so that the fabric bread warmer wraps the dinner rolls cozy.
The fabric warmer is reversible and useful for bread or buns and as a scone or muffin warmer. To use it, wrap the muffin, scone, or biscuit the same way you wrap the dinner rolls.
